Sagittarian Lapis Lazuli: A Gemstone for Focus and Peace of Mind [1]
“Lapis Lazuli is one of the true gemstones of Sagittarius. It is composed of different minerals and therefore some gem experts consider it to not be a mineral, but a rock with Lazurite as its main ingredient. This opaque blue stone is not very hard—its Mohs’ hardness is only 5 to 6, making it easy to carve and cut. For that reason it has been used in jewelry since ancient times. In Egypt it was considered a sacred stone and was used in jewelry and sacred objects like scarabs. To me the most beautiful Lapis is dark blue with spots of golden pyrite, which makes it a very unique-looking specimen. Lapis should be set in gold.
The best and darkest quality Lapis Lazuli is found in Afghanistan. Deposits in Chile and Russia yield lighter blue stones with whitish or grayish veins.

Copper has the ability to kill bacteria such as E. Coli in hours compared to surviving for months on stainless steel surfaces. Using copper as a countertop material or food preparation surface could help reduce the risk of food poisoning from bacteria such as E. Coli.
Copper’s antimicrobial properties are a supplement to standard infection control practices. Together, they can reduce the number of disease-causing bacteria found in hospital rooms. Copper’s antimicrobial properties should be particularly advantageous in applications where the surface is frequently touched key areas where disease-causing bacteria live. Initial prototype applications for copper components include IV poles and hospital hardware, such as door handles and chair arms.
Copper’s antimicrobial properties go beyond a surface coating, and provided the surface is clean, copper will continue to kill bacteria after wear and abrasion. Oh how I love a question that’s so easy to answer…is Egypt’s real estate sector really worth investing in?
Too right it is!
There are so many positive aspects of the property market in Egypt that make the entire sector an exciting place to be right now that anyone serious about venturing into an emerging overseas real estate market should be focused on Egypt for at least the medium term.
First things first let’s remove the confusion – Egypt is not a country plagued by terrorism, drought or famine – it’s a stunningly beautiful, ancient and interesting country with a coastline that is brushed and caressed by both the Mediterranean and Red seas. It is also one of the most exciting and exotic countries in closest proximity to Europe giving investors a massive potential tourist audience to target; it is also a country that can genuinely boast year round sunshine on its Red Sea Riviera which means it offers investors year round potential for profit.
If these are not reasons enough alone for a property investor to get curious about Egypt, how about the fact that Dubai based mega property developers Emaar have just committed millions of dollars to the Egyptian residential real estate market place in Cairo? Or what about the fact that the Egyptian government have slashed property related taxation costs to make the whole process of owning real estate in Egypt that much more affordable for more people?
You can add to this the fact that inward foreign direct investment into Egypt is at an all time high, the country is receiving higher annual visitor intake than ever before and the country is enjoying its best relationships with Western governments in documented history if you like.
Furthermore the amount of investment and economic confidence in Egypt is opening up a wealthy and growing middle class sector who are keen to afford property for sale and rent in Cairo and Alexandria in particular, and this gives an investor a local resale market to target in the medium term which further boosts the long term potential of an investment made into the real estate sector which is currently dominated by the tourism market.
It’s a fact that the highest rental incomes achievable for a real estate investor in Egypt right now are from tourist friendly properties along the Red Sea and Mediterranean coastlines – properties that are well located and facilitated are most in demand from the tourism market looking for short term lets. But there’s also a growing retirement market in Egypt that’s attracting great attention and giving real estate investors another potential revenue stream to explore.

In the past 5 years Costa Rica properties has emerged on the international market as a top investment and tourist destination. This explosive growth is unprecedented and was unforeseen. A combination of factors created a new tourism market for adventure travelers and for investors in Costa Rica properties. During the early years of the Iraq War, US citizens had to be careful when travelling in Europe. As a result, Latin America which has no terrorism became a safe destination for tourist and real estate investments. The other factor was the incredible violence that was plaguing Mexico’s beach towns where the main income is tourism the majority of tourists come from North America. Spring Break and Winter break vacations began to shift to Costa Rica because it was a safer alternative to Mexico’s violence and drug wars.
What many people learned about Costa Rica that was unknown to the international traveller is that Costa Rica is safe and has lots to offer tourists. For investment purposes, the increase in tourism created demand for Costa Rica properties in housing or accommodations for these tourists. Few hotels have been constructed during this time period but condo developments were building and popping up everywhere tourists like to visit in Costa Rica. The condo hotel concept was forged because of this demand for accommodations and the ability to earn rental income from the condo investments. Therefore this increase is a benefit to investors because in the near term the demand for quality condo rentals is huge and the supply is low despite seeing so many condos being built. You must remember, not everyone wants to participate in a rental program.
Another positive sign for investors is Costa Rica real estate is always in the top ten lists for something. Today we will show you another one of these lists that was published as Ten Places you should visit before you die. The title is a little abrasive but the point is well taken that the suggestions in the list are exceptional tourist locations that provide memorable experiences. Here is the list below:
1. New York City - While I’ve never been there (except to the airport), New York Citymakes this list because of how famous it is. New York is everything we see: on television, in music, media, the news … it’s all we ever hear about. So this city is definitely a place to visit, even if it’s just to see what all the fuss is about.
2. Madrid, Spain - Madrid is one of the most historical and beautiful cities in Spain in my opinion. You’d be crazy not to drink a glass a sangria and see a flamenco show while you were there, too. It’s all about soaking in the culture because, in Madrid, it’s abundant.
3. Florence, Italy - Florence is my favorite city in the world (BEFORE it became a scene in the second “Twilight” movie). There’s something about Florence that is both mysterious and romantic, you have to actually go there to see what I mean. And while some say it’s overrated, another one of my favorite places in Italy is of course, Rome, because of all the history and the Coliseum, which is surreal once you see it in real life.
4. Nice, France - The city of Nice has castles from the 15th century that you can actually walk through; it will blow your mind.
5. The pyramids in Egypt – ‘Cause you just gotta see ‘em!
6. Santorini, Greece - Greek culture is SO interesting to me, and the city of Santorini is supposedly one of the prettiest in the country. I think this makes the list simply because of the culture you will find there.
7. London, England - London has been in so many movies it’s not even funny … even then I think it’s still worth seeing with your own eyes. (Maybe even hang out with Madonna or Gwyneth while you’re there.)
8. Frankfurt, Germany - Because who doesn’t love lederhosen and lebkuchen?
9. San Jose, Costa Rica - The people of Costa Rica (while still a second-world country) are the happiest people you will ever meet. Must do’s: zip-lining, horseback riding (on the beach!), white water rafting, rappelling and snorkeling.
10. Sydney, Australia - They say Australia has the most dangerous species of animals in the world, but I’d still love to visit because it would be so different from the ordinary. Hopefully you could pick up an Australian accent while you’re there, too.

Investors in the UAE property market have been facing some serious frustrations recently, particularly in the northern emirates of Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm ul Quwain. Ajman has been a particular destination of choice for many Pakistanis who have been attracted by the cheap off-plan property prices and the promise of a residence visa. Now that some of these projects have completed or are nearing completion, they have discovered that they get a 1 year visa which needs to be renewed EACH year at a cost of AED 1,500 (Rs.33000) and even worse, they may not have any electricity in the hot and humid desert climate for several years !!
Thousands of buildings are being constructed in the United Arab Emirates during the current development boom but they have neglected one serious development issue – ELECTRICITY !! Many brand new buildings that have already been completed, stand in darkness while the owners of the apartments in these buildings stand frustrated. Many moved in furniture and belongings expecting the electricity to be connected with a few days but theey are still waiting months later and it seems that the problem will not go away until 2012 at the earliest.
in Umm al Qaiwain, a Dh30-billion project by the Dubai-based developer Tameer, Al Salam City, was put on hold in May due to the shortage of electricity and water. The delay in such a high-profile project, which was believed to have been 70 per cent sold, was a major blow to the emirate.
Safeer Mall, in RAK, which was completed in June, and has the largest hypermarket in the region, remains empty due to the electricity crisis. A spokesman for the mall said they have lost all hope of solving the problem and businesses are starting to withdraw stock.
In RAK alone, 3,532 building permits have been issued. But up to 2,145 buildings in the emirate are still waiting to be connected with electricity, according to the municipality.
In entire districts of Ajman, brand new high-rise towers, finished to perfection, have stood empty for months. At night, occasional lighting powered by generators highlights the idle buildings.
Developers, unable to persuade the federal or municipal authorities to switch the power on, are watching investments running into millions of dirhams show no sign of producing the expected return.
Ajman has signed a bn agreement with the Malaysian power producer MMC to build the Gulf’s first coal-powered electricity plant. The project will not be ready until 2012.
It is unlikely that the energy crisis will be resolved before 2013.
Mr Shaban spent millions on setting up business in the Emirate and is now facing ruin and haveing to return to Egypt with nothing and says others are in comparable predicaments. “Many people bought a flat here. They may have bought it for Dh900,000 and now they have had to sell it for Dh500,000.”
Without power, he says, there can be “no life, no development … you are nothing”.
“You can expect this to happen in other countries, but not the UAE,” he added. “How will the development of the city be achieved if all the business people leave? People are already saying there is no power in Ajman, so why are they still giving approval for the buildings?”
Many Pakistanis who invested in the property markets of Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah are now dumping their properties at below their purchase prices and are trying to take out whatever they can of their investments. Islamabad is experiencing a resurgence in real estate investment as much of this money s being repatriated to the safety of the federal capital of Pakistan.

Frequent and regular hand washing, antimicrobial soaps and gels may not be enough in preventing harmful microbes. This is for the reason that viruses and pathogens don’t only get to their hosts through the hands but they can also stick to different garments, and actually breed there. In the medical business, antimicrobial nursing scrub tops, scrub pants and medical lab coats already exist. However, the today’s medical scrubs’ and lab coats’ antimicrobial properties most likely to weaken eventually as they are washed.
However there is a way to address the problem. This is to create medical scrubs and uniforms having permanent antimicrobial properties. There are already scientists currently working on developing textiles that are capable of keeping extreme antimicrobial properties despite repetitive wash and wear. To make this possible, the NSF or National Science Foundation sponsored a research in the mid of year 2005, wherein the North Carolina State University’s nuclear and textile engineers worked with Egypt’s National Research Center textile scientists to create the textiles with permanent antimicrobial properties.
With the use of natural antimicrobial agent called chitosan into the altered molecular structure of fibers, a number of dangerous microorganisms, namely lactobacillus planterum, e-coli and staphylococcus aureus, are taken care of. Chitosan is also effective in depressing the growth of methicilin resistant staphylococcus aureus by slowing down its growth. And with its capability to form insoluble network having embedded or chemically bonded with the cellulose or molecular fiber structure, the antimicrobial properties of end products can really become permanent.
To attain permanent antimicrobial properties with medical scrubs and lab coats, the textiles to be used need to have the following characteristics: capability to stand usages and washing; effective control on a wide range of microorganisms, including the deadly viruses; antimicrobial effect should be contained on the surface of the textile to not interfere with friendly bacteria, must not contain toxic migrating substances that can harm both the manufacturer and consumer and the fabric quality must retained with the application.
The US Special Forces, the NASA astronauts and Olympic athletes, are currently provided with the performance uniforms having permanent antimicrobial properties for unmatched protection. It’s made possible by the use of 99.9% pure silver delivery system. In the future, the healthcare industry will benefit from such smart textile advancements. Doctors and nurses will also have utmost protection from harmful pathogens commonly found in their place of work.
